The Museum is operated by the U.S. Naval Institute. A new Gallery of Ships was opened August 7, 1994, featuring many of the 108 ship models dating from 1650 to 1850 belonging to the Henry Huddleston Rogers Collection.
The Academy itself is a National Historic Shrine, containing a multitude of monuments and relics, including the foremast of the battleship USS Maine and the crypt of John Paul Jones.
