Founded in 1948, the Nautical Research Guild, Inc., is a US tax-exempt, non-profit educational organization supported by an international membership of historians, ship model makers, artists, writers, and laymen who interpret a common interest in ships from many viewpoints. The NRG is a volunteer-oriented nautical society, with interests in all fields of nautical research, and with a special emphasis on ship modeling.

The NRG is currently [1998] publishing the 43th volume of the: Nautical Research Journal (ISSN 0738-7245).
The Nautical Research Journal is the Guild's primary medium of communications. Published Quarterly, its features focus on topics including, but not limited to, past and current facets of naval and merchant ship and boat building, naval architecture, fishing, yachting, vessel outfitting, maritime trade, literature, and the maritime arts. Material is contributed by professional and dedicated amateur historians, museum curators, ship modelers, artists, and others.
