Aigburth

An iron full-rigged ship built in 1882 by R. Williamson & Son, Workington, at a cost of £ 23.400. Dimensions 82,34×11,90×7,20 meters [266'7"×39'0"×23'6"] and 1838 GRT, 1798 NRT and 1717 tons under deck. Rigged with royals over single topgallant and double top-sails.

1882 October: Launched at the shipyard of R. Williamson & Son, Workington, for Sailing Ship Aigburth Co. Ltd. (R.W. Leyland & Co.), Liverpool. Assigned the official British Reg. No. 86222 and signal WMKR.
1901 November: Stranded on the South Arklow Bank in the Irish sea while under command of Captain John Henry Reid late of the same owner's ship Otterspool. Captain Reid was afterwards suspended three months for the stranding.
1904 August 2: Wrecked on a previously unchartered coral reef off Rook Island, New Guinea, on voyage from Newcastle, NSW, to Sourabaya, Java, under command of Captain John Reid. The crew left the ship in four boats and were all able to reach safety except for on of the boats with the second mate and seven men.
