Cairnbulg

An iron fullrigged ship built in 1874 by J. Dutie & Co., Aberdeen. Dimensions 261'3"×39'0"×23'0" and tonnage 1599 GRT, 1567 NRT and 1497 tons under deck. Later re-rigged as a barque.

1874 March: Launched at the shipyard of J. Dutie & Co., Aberdeen, for W. Dutie, Jun., Aberdeen. Assigned the official British Reg. No. 65107 and signal NFCB.
c1890: Sold to Dutie Brothers & Co., Aberdeen.
1897: Sold to Ångfartygsaktiebolaget Finska Lloyd, Helsingfors, to be used as a sail training ship. Renamed Hellas.
1902: Sold to J. Johannessen & Co., Kristiania, and was renamed Alexandra.
1907 November 26: Sailed from Newcastle, NSW, with a cargo of coal for Panama.
1908 January: Became becalmed in the Pacific for three months.
1908 May 8: The crew left the ship after having been without food for twelve days. The captain's boat was rescued by a passing steam ship while the first mate's boat managed to reach Indefatigable, Galapagos. The Alexandra was later found grounded off Ablemarle.
