Helen Denny

A full-rigged iron ship built in 1866 by Robert Duncan, Port Glasgow. Dimensions 187'5"×31'2"×19'1" and tonnage 728 GRT, 728 NRT and 690 tons under deck. Her forcastle was 31' long and the poop 29'.

1866 November: Launched at the shipyard of Robert Duncan, Port Glasgow, for Patrick Henderson & Co., Glasgow. Assigned the official British Reg. No. 56168 and signal HMTD.
1872: Sold to Shaw, Savill & Co., London. Employed in the New Zealand emmigrant trade.
1875: Reduced to barque rig.
1875-1882: Under command of Captain William Ruthe.
1875 July 30: Sailed from Plymouth to Napier in 85 days.
1876 July 6 - October 30: Sailed from London to Nelson in 116 days.
1877 June 12 - September 9: Sailed from London to Dunedin in 89 days or 78 days land to land.
1878 May 22 - September 2: Sailed from London to Nelson in 102 days.
1879 May 14 - August 21: Sailed from London to Dunedin in 109 days.
1880 April 28 - July 19: Sailed from London to Lyttleton in 82 days.
1882 March 15 - June 25: Sailed from London to Wellington in 102 days.
1883-1887: In command of Captain James.
1883 July 3 - October 9: Sailed from London to Dunedin in 98 days.
1884 September 12 - December 18: Sailed from London to Wellington in 97 days.
1885 August 11 - November 19: Sailed from London to Wellington in 100 days.
1886 July 11 - October 17: Sailed from London to Auckland in 99 days. Detained in the Channel for ten days.
