Holt Hill

A four-masted steel barque built in 1890 by Russell & Co., Port Glasgow. Dimensions: 86,12×13,10×7,33 meters [282'7"×43'0"×24'1"] and tonnage: 2398 GRT, 2269 NRT and 2246 tons under deck.

Rigged in jubilee fashion, i.e. with nothing above double top and topgallant sails.

1890 July
Launched at the shipyard of Russell & Co., Port Glasgow, for the Sailing Ship "Holt Hill" Co. (W. Price & Co.), Liverpool. Assigned the official British Register No. 97798 and signal LSTK. Captain R. Edwards was given command of the ship.
1907 January 14 - August 5
Sailed from Glasgow to Vancouver, BC, in 203 days. Captain Thomas England Parker, aged over eighty years although entered as only 73 in the official log, died off the coast of Chile.
1916 December 5
Left Nantes for Gulfport but was completely dismasted in a severe gale a few days later. The wreck was found by the Dutch steamer Iberia and the crew was taken onbaord the steamer. An attempt to take the Holt Hill on tow had to be abandoned when the hawser parted.
1916 December 30
Brought into Verdon Roads by a French steamer.

Sold to Société Maritime et Commmerciale (G. Kuranda), Bordeaux, as a hulk and was renamed Marthe Solange.
1917 January 3
Taken to Bordeaux where she was used as a depot ship for the port authorities and pilots.
1919
Served as hulk in Alger. [Picard has 1921]
1928/1929
Broken up.
