Nivelle
A four-masted steel barque built in 1897 by Scott & Co., Greenock.
Dimensions: 89,10×13,15×7,36 meters [292'4"×43'2"×24'2"] and tonnage: 2430 GRT and 2262 NRT.
Rigged with double top and topgallant sails and royal sails.
Sistership to the same owner's fourmasted barque
Hougomont (1897).

- Launched at the shipyard of Scott & Co., Greenock, as Yard No. 345 for Nivelle Shipping Co. Ltd.
(J.
Hardie & Co. mgrs), Glasgow. Assigned the official British Reg. No. 106074.
Captain G.T.F. Williams was given command of the new vessel.

- Sailed from New York to Shanghai in 162 days with a cargo of case oil.
- 1900
- Transferred to J. Hardie Co.
- 1900
- Sailed from New York to Hong Kong in 154 days with a cargo of case oil.
- 1906 June 30
- Drifted ashore and was wrecked at Point Grande,
Valparaiso, on voyage from Newcastle, NSW, to Antofagasta with coal. [Mowat
has June 20].
