Pyrénées

A four-masted steel barque built in 1891 by C. Connell & Co., Glasgow. Dimensions: 86,68×12,92×7,48 meters [284'5"×42'5"×24'7"] and tonnage: 2243 GRT and 2169 NRT. Rigged royal sails over double top and topgallant sails.

Sistership to the same owner's fourmasted barque Vimeira (1891) and to Dink's Thistle (1891).

1891 September 7: Launched at the shipyard of C. Connell & Co., Glasgow, as Yard No. 178 for John Hardie & Co., Glasgow. Assigned the official British reg. No. 98670.
1891: Sailed from Glasgow to Sydney in 86 days under command of Captain Robert Bryce.
1894: Loaded timber at Fredrikstad, Norway, and sailed to Melbourne in 104 days.
1896 November 23 - March 12: Sailed from San Francisco to Queenstown in 109 days, arriving on the same day as the fourmasted barque Queen Margaret which had left San Francisco two days before the Pyrenees.
1897: Sailed from Hamburg to Sydney in 97 days.
1898: Sailed from Newcastle, NSW, to San Francisco in 52 days.
1898: Sailed from San Francisco to Falmouth in 120 days.
1898: Sailed from Liverpool to Sydney in 86 days.
1898: Sailed from Newcastle, NSW, to San Francisco in 72 days.
1899: Sailed from San Francisco to Dublin in 136 days.
1900 November 16: The grain cargo caught fire on voyage from Tacoma to Leith. Beached on Sanatul Island in the Mangareva Islands and was abandoned as a total loss.
1902: The wreck was bought by J.E. Thayer, San Francisco, and refloated.
1905: Rebuilt in San Francisco and transferred to the Ship Manga Reva Co. (J.E. Thayer, mngr) and given the name Manga Rewa.
1916: Sold to Brynhilda Shipping Co., San Francisco.
1916 November 11: Sailed from the Hampton Roads for Rotterdam.
1916 November 19: Spoken to at 47°N 14°W.
1916 December 9: Sunk by a German submarine.
