Romsdal

A four-masted iron ship built in 1877 by R. Steele, Greenock. Dimensions: 84,04×12,51×7,13 meters [275'9"×41'1"×23'5"] and tonnage 1887 GRT and 1827 NRT. Rigged with royal sails above double top and single topgallant sails.

1877 October
Launched at the shipyard of R. Steele, Greenock, for J.A. Allan, Glasgow. Used in the Indian jute trade. Captain J. Jarman was the first master of the ship.

Sailed from Plymouth to Adelaide.
1884 April 26 - August 1
Sailed from Dundee to Rangoon in 97 days.
1884 September 20 - January 1
Sailed from Rangoon to Queenstown in 103 days.
1885 December 17 - April 6
Sailed from San Francisco to Liverpool in 110 days.
1886 May 30 - August 19
Off Tuscar to Calcutta in 81 days.
1888 May 10 - September 4
Sailed from Cardiff to San Francisco in 116 days.
1888 November 3 - March 5
Sailed from San Francisco to Queenstown in 122 days.
1891 May 20 - August 21
Sailed from Liverpool to Chittagong in 93 days.
1891 October 31
Left Chittagon with a cargo of jute for Dundee in company with the County of Selkirk.
1891 November 2
Foundered in a tropical cyclone in the Gulf of Bengal. The County of Selkirk was able to survive the storm.
