Springburn

A four-masted steel barque built in 1892 by Barclay, Curle & Co., Glasgow. Dimensions: 90,22×13,86×7,79 meters [296'0"×45'6"×25'7"] and tonnage: 2655 GRT and 2500 NRT.

Rigged in jubilee fashion, i.e. with nothing above double top and topgallant sails.

Sistership to the same owner's fourmasted barque Celticburn (1892).

Launched at the shipyard of Barclay, Curle & Co., Glasgow, for R. Shankland & Co., Greenock. Captain William Howard-Rae. Originally used in the Indian jute trade.
1896 September 12
Raced the fourmasted barque Carradale from San Francisco to Hull. During the race the Carradale was spoken at:

Left La Pallice in ballast for Taltal under command of Captain Lebreton.
1917 August 1
Sunk by the German submarine U 155 at 33°33' N, 23°15' W. The crew was able to reach La Palma, Canary Islands, some 400 miles away.
