Wamphray

A four-masted steel barque built in 1891 by R. Duncan & Co., Port Glasgow. Dimensions: 82,46×12,19×7,16 meters [270'7"×40'0"×23'6"] and tonnage: 1931 GRT and 1795 NRT.

1891: Launched at the shipyard of R. Duncan & Co., Port Glasgow, for T.C. Guthrie, Glasgow. Captain A. McConnell.
1891 August 4: Left Glasgow on her maiden voyage with a cargo of coal.
1891 October 18: South of Staten Island it was discovered that the cargo was on fire. The burning coal was jettisoned but the remaining cargo shifted when the weather worsened. The Wamphray was in a sinking condition when she was discovered by the fullrigger Fritz Reuter, Hamburg, and the crew was saved.
