Wendur

A four-masted iron ship built in 1884 by C. Connell & Co., Glasgow. Dimensions: 89,17×12,80×7,21 meters [292'7"×42'0"×23'8"] and tonnage 2046 GRT and 1982 NRT. Rigged with royal sails over double top and topgallant sails. The fore and main masts orginally had skysails.

1884 September: Launched at the shipyard of C. Connell & Co., Glasgow, A. Mackay & Co., Glasgow. The first master was Captain R. Ramsey.
1884 November 13 - March 4: Sailed from Clyde to Calcutta in 111 days.
1886 September 23 - January 18: Sailed from San Francisco to Queenstown in 117 days.
1894: Captain Frank R. Whitson took over command.
1894 July - September 24: Sailed from Fredrikstad to Melbourne in 81 days. 76 days from Dunnet Head.
1895 July 4: Sailed from Fredrikstad to Melbourne with a cargo of boards and paper.
1896 January 1 - January 30: Sailed from Newcastle, NSW, to Valparaiso in 29½ days. This was the new record for the passage, the previous was 32 days and was held by a steamer. The four-masted barque Loch Torridon which had sailed from Newcastle, NSW, on the same date as the Wendur arrived six hours later.

1904: Captain E.R. Kendrick.
1906: Reduced to barque rig. The skysails were removed at the same time.
1909: Captain W. Thomas.
1912 March 9: Arrived at Plymouth with a cargo of wheat from Melbourne and was ordered to continue to Swansea.
1912 March 12: Wrecked on the Seven Stones, Scilly Islands, on voyage from Plymouth to Swansea. Captain G.H. Blackstock and seventeen men of the crew were picked up and saved by a Lowestoft steam drifter, while the steward and two men were lost.
